The Ondo state police command has been alerted by residents of Maronu in Akure so as to find solution to thugs who uses the new abandoned stadium as their habitat.
The report came some four days after suspected thugs were arrested by the police in an undone building in Alagbaka, Akure meters away from the States House of Assembly.
The Stadium Project has been left undone since the tenure of Dr. Olusegun Agagu, the reigning tenure of Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has also not done anything about the project. The stadium is located Maronu Area of Akure.
The report that first got to the state Police was that the undone stadium had been taken over by ‘Fulani herdsmen and cannabis smokers but now according to the residents, thugs using the stadium as their habitat are increasing in numbers.
A resident called Mrs Ojo said that the thugs were growing in numbers by the day.
She said, “On many occasions, the hoodlums would attack the passers-by and rob them of their belongings after which they would run into the premises of the new stadium to escape.
“If you passed by the road beside the stadium anything after 9pm, you are at risk of attack by the hoodlums, that is where they stay now and we have not been seen police to go into the premises to arrest any of them.”
Mr Femi Joseph, The PPRO of the Onda state police command said the police are not letting their guard down and are patrolling the area, he also advised the residents to alert the police whenever they see any of the thugs around the new undone stadium.
“Our men have been patrolling the area very often, we will also appreciate it if the residents of the area can be informing us about the activities of the hoodlums in the said premises. ” Mr Joseph said .
According to reports, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is looking into the project but no official statement made yet, it was also gathered that the project has attracted some foreign investors.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Gbenga Adelaiye, said Akeredolu was ready to act on the project and come out with a solution. Mr Gbenga Adelaiye who’s the states ‘Ministry of Youths and Sports Permanent Secretary’ stated that Governor Akeredolu was willing to act on the abandoned project with hopes of coming out with a solution.
